Maserati Ghibli Super Bowl Commercial: A Look at What's to Come For Car Maker (VIDEO)

Feb 04, 2014 01:27 PM EST | By Justin Stock

Maserati's super bowl commercial for its Ghibli sports car Sunday, hinted at what is to come for the car manufacturer.

"We were small but fast, remember?" actress Quvenzhane Wallis says in the commercial. "We were like a wind appearing out of nowhere. We knew that being clever was more important than being the biggest kid in the neighborhood. We wait until they get sleepy. Wait until they get so big they can barely move. And then we walk out of the shadows. Quietly walk out of the dark-and strike," she said.

The commercial starts out with an introduction from actress Quvenzhane Wallis about conquering bullying, and footage of other individuals such as a ballet dancer, firefighters, and  a man doing work at a steel mill before unveiling the new sports car, which was expected to be a new vehicle on Jaguar's F models according to Forbes.

Maserati's $66,000 Ghibli has four doors and is considered a mid-size vehicle luxury sports sedan according to Hollywood Reporter.

The company expects to market 50,000 Ghiblis in 2015 twice the amount of the number it distributed last year Forbes reported.

"Maserati has stepped into the foyer in a major fashion," Arthur Henry, a senior analyst at Kelley Blue Book told Forbes. "In years past when shoppers where tighter with their wallets, the luxury brands didn't have the impact on shoppers as they did this year, but as the economy and shopper confidence improves luxury looks to be the hot ticket item for 2014," Henry told Forbes.

"It's not easy to achieve these kinds of large shifts in search activity at the brand level, so it's clear that these ads were doing something right," John Kovac, vice president of marketing at Auto Trader.

Maserati Ghibli searches went up 4,250 percent at Kelley Blue Book, the most out of all the cars advertised during the super bowl Forbes reported.

The car has hit the market, and is available for a test drive.
