Sep 30, 2014 12:49 PM EDT | By Adelyn Torralba

William Shatner will once again play the role of the iconic Captain Kirk. During the Wizard World Comic Con in Nashville, The actor was happily telling the audience that J.J. Abrams called him and asked if he was willing to play a role in the upcoming third installment of rebooted Star Trek movie series.

The actor cautioned that the offer is still being considered. But he made it clear that any role he will play will largely depend on what has happened to Captain Kirk in the previous movies. Nonetheless, William Shatner said that he is "delighted" to come back to Star Fleet Command.

J.J. Abrams had wanted William Shatner to appear on the first reboot Star Trek movie in 2009. However, the movie was shown without him. Shatner insisted that his character in the said movie be given a major role in the film. The only planned appearance of William Shatner is where he sing Captain Kirk's version of "Happy Birthday" to Spock (played by Leonard Nimoy).

Robert Orci will be the new director for the third Star Trek installment. J.J. Abrams was the director for the two earlier Star Trek Reboot films. But Abrams will be a producer on the third. So far, no official word has been announced on what kind of role the producer had in mind for William Shatner's Captain Kirk. However a post from Badassdigest reported that the script for Star Trek 3 includes Shatner's Captain Kirk and Nimoy's Spock teaming up, once again.

If the deal pushes through and if Shatner does agree to appear, this will be the first time that William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy will work again since Star Trek - The Undiscovered Country film in 1991.

The same post also reported that William Shatner himself has made it no secret that he wants to appear in any of the Star Trek reboot films. If he wants it bad enough, this is probably his last chance.
