Hayley Williams Accuses One Direction Of Copying New Found Glory Song; Paramore Frontwoman Says 'Steal My Girl' Sounds Like 'It's Not Your Fault'

Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams accused One Direction of allegedly copying some parts of a New Found Glory song. Williams chimed in on what allegedly was a joke made by New Found Glory guitarist and boyfriend Chad Gilbert.

Gilbert took to his Twitter account to post about the similarity of the piano part in his band's song "It's Not Your Fault" to the boyband's latest single "Steal My Girl."

"Props to the @onedirection 'steal my girl' single for reworking the 'it's not your fault' piano part into a top 40 single. Let me get a cut," Gilbert tweeted.

Williams then posted a similar observation on her Twitter account, saying: "Beginning of that new 1D song couldn't sound any more like the beginning of @newfoundglory's 'it's not your fault.'"

Along with her post was a photo of a Kermit the frog meme saying "But that's none of my business."

What was supposedly intended as a joke became a brief case of Haley Williams versus One Direction fans, as legions of "Directioners" took a jab at the singer.

Gilbert, who started the "joke," was not spared and became the victim of an onslaught of hate messages. As an answer to the many tweets he received, Gilbert posted: "All you One D'z nuts fans. Second period is starting. Get to class and stop tweeting me. It's not their fault so please stop your tweeting now."

One fan reportedly threw the ball back to Gilbert and argued "and it's not your fault sounds just like faithfully by journey sooooooo." It wasn't the first time that observation was made, though, as Spin magazine had already pointed it out in a report.

In an interview with MTV News, one of "Steal My Girl" writers, Julian Bunetta, clarified that they did not copy the song anywhere especially not from the Journey classic. "When we sat down and played the piano lick, nobody had any references in their head about what they wanted to write," he explained. "But at least we are being compared to a classic song and not a shitty song, so that's a compliment."

Paramore's lead singer did not comment when she got backlash from her tweet and the issue appears to have died a natural death, which would make it safe to say that Hayley Williams versus One Direction is over.
