Oct 15, 2014 06:47 AM EDT | By Adelyn Torralba

Black Eyed Peas member and Tech entrepreneur Will.i.am will have an Android smartwatch launched this week in order to give Apple Watch some competition. Apple launched its own version of smartwatch last month. Critics have been raving about the features of the smartwatch from Android.

The upcoming Android timepiece will also sport features that will certainly give the Apple Watch a run for its money. The Will.i.am smartwatch is believed to have wireless internet connection and will have apps such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and a few others. This android smartwatch can function even without a smartphone connection. It can make and receive calls on its own.

The Android powered watch will feature a curve screen in contrast to Apple Watch's flat screen. The Will.i.am smartwatch also lets its wearers to download and store music for their listening pleasure.

Smartwatch wearers can download their music from 7digital, a British tech company. Based on a Marketing Magazine report, it seems that the users will be charged a standard rate for the music they download. Will and 7Digital made a music deal that will offer the same rate to independent artists and artists from major label companies. As a result of the music deal, the shares of 7Digital went up. The standard rate may give 7Digital some advantage over its competitors who offer different rates to independent and major music labels.

Will.i.am is definitely proud of his smartwatch. He showed the watch early this year during an episode in "The Voice." In a Chatty Man interview on the British channel 4 Will said, "I started the company myself. I funded it. I used my own money to develop it. It's a phone; it has all my music in it. If I'm working out I could work out with it without wires, with Bluetooth headphones. It's got Twitter, Instagram and Facebook."

Incidentally, Will.i.am was one of the founders of Beat Electronics, a tech company. Apple bought the company this year for over $3 Billion USD. He is also currently Intel's creative innovation director.
