Chipotle faces wage-theft allegations from workers

Nov 03, 2014 03:41 PM EST | By Staff Reporter

Chipotle employees from Colorado and Minnesota are alleging that the company often makes workers continue their services "off the clock" without pay.

Several of these employees wrote official court statements explaining that they had to continue to clean up their restaurant locations despite the time keeping system clocking them out at 12:30 a.m., according to CNN Money.

"If I complained about not being paid for all of the hours that I worked, Chipotle would threaten me with termination or would punish me by cutting my hours," former Minnesota Chipotle employee Demarkus Hobbs said in his statement, according to the site.

"It was my understanding that we had to work off the clock to meet budget goals, and because bonuses for general managers were based upon labor costs," Leah Turner, a Colorado-based Chipotle manager said, CNN Money also reports.

Although several employees have complained about similar issues with the chain, the company has historically maintained one of the best working environments among other casual dining franchises. In fact, the company was ranked as one of the "best places to work" in the Denver Area by several publications.

The company has not issued a statement addressing the previously mentioned allegations of wage-theft.
