There is another name added to the cast of the upcoming super villain movie, and this time, it is a woman. Margot Robbie is set to join the roster of actors for the upcoming "Suicide Squad" movie, as reported by Collider.

The Australian actress will be the counterpart of Joker, which is reportedly being offered to Jared Leto. Robbie, known for her portrayal in "The Wolf of Wall Street" opposite with no less than Leonardo di Carpio, is reportedly 'close to signing' for the "Suicide Squad" movie.

Robbie's character is rumored to be Harley Quinn, the female Joker who connives with her love interest to bring dilemma to the superheroes' lives. If the report appears to be true, the 24-year old actress, who is currently filming "Tarzan" movie where she plays Jane, is set to join Will Smith and Tom Hardy who are also rumored to be the lead stars in the upcoming spinoff movie.

Harley Quinn's character is not as famous as other DC comics characters. The female villain is originally Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel who decided to ditch her medical career to join her boyfriend in his evil deeds. This means the origin of her character "is tied in with the Clown Prince of Crime" who is Joker.

It can be recalled that her character was introduced in "Batman: The Animated Series" where she was Joker's girlfriend. The two villains share an on and off relationship but the female Joker has already earned her own name as a popular female villain.

It is not clear though if the "Suicide Squad" movie, written and directed by David Ayer, will follow the same back story for Quinn's character. What is known is that the movie, described as "The Dirty Dozen with Supervillains," will be about a group of villains that will make a deal with the government in order to reduce their detention sentences.

News of Robbie's Hayley Quinn portrayal is contrary to initial rumors that the elite model Cara Delivingne will be playing the said role. The reports are based on the British supermodel's Instagram post where she was wearing the female joker's costume. So it seems that the model was beaten by Robbie who is also set to play as a ruthless news anchor in an upcoming black comedy, "The Taliban Shuffle."

Warner Brothers and DC Comics slated "Suicide Squad" release date of August 16 but the date is subject to change as there are ten upcoming superhero movies from the film production house.
