How To Get Away With Murder Winter Finale: Series Creator Peter Nowalk Talks About 'The Killer' And How That Gruesome Choice Will Change Him

Warning: If you haven't seen How To Get Away with Murder winter finale, walk away now as this post is filled with major spoilers.

At last, viewers finally learned who killed Sam (Tom Verica) in How To Get Away with Murder winter finale. Probably, nobody predicted that it was Wes Gibbins (Alfred Enoch) who hit the husband of Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) with a trophy and eventually killing him. During the first few episodes, the show just jumped from current events to flash forwards but never gave a clue about Sam's murderer. The killer has been identified at last in the finale titled "Kill Me, Kill Me, Kill Me." Wes looked like the most innocent among the Keating 5+Rebecca Sutter and this is the reason why they are shocked to learn that he is the killer.

In previous How To Get Away with Murder spoilers, series creator Peter Nowalk said that Wes Gibbins is a lot stronger than his colleagues. Katie Findlay, who plays Wes Gibbin's love interest Rebecca, also said that he is much darker than her character.

However, once How To Get Away with Murder returns next year, people will see how these events will affect Wes Gibbins, in a negative way. He may look calm and collected while dealing with the body of his victim but on the next episodes, he will change dramatically.

"It's going to rock his entire foundation. It will change him completely from who he was. That night hijacked his life; you have to quickly become someone else who's not quite human," Nowalk told in an interview with the Entertainment Weekly shortly after the How To Get Away with Murder winter finale.

"That means many things for him. Whether he becomes hardened, whether he becomes colder, whether he becomes more traumatized, darker, more connected with Rebecca or less connected with Rebecca, I think that's the ripple effect of what he's done. I don't think anyone could ever prepare for that, especially someone who is built like him. He's had a lot of struggles in his life, but I don't think anything has prepared him for this."

The killer twist in the finale is also something that rocked television. Lurking from a dark corner when We returned for the trophy, Annalise knows that his students have something to do with the death of her husband but she didn't report it to the police. Annalise and Wes are in cahoots, others are clueless. Will she be the same person that will help Gibbins get out of the crime? What are her motives? That is something we will find out when How to Get Away with Murder returns on January 29 next year.
