The hit Spanish horror film is set for a U.S. release next year, as Magnet Releasing has finally acquired the rights for the "[REC] 4: Apocalypse." Alongside its premiere date announcement, a new poster for the upcoming film has been out to entice suspense thriller fanatics.

Opening in theaters and available on iTunes and on Demand on Jan. 2, "[REC] 4: Apocalypse" is the fourth and final installment of the hit Spanish franchise. Premiered during the Toronto Film Festival, the well-acclaimed movie is also the opening entry at the Sitges Film Festival.

"[REC] 4: Apocalypse," directed by Jaume Balaguero, features an elite group of soldiers who successfully end the chaos in an old and ravaged building in Barcelona where several persons possessed by a demonic virus had been living into.

The mission ended speedily and successfully as the security officers were able to save the young lady reporter, Angela Vidal. Little did the soldiers know that the character played by Manuela Velasco, also carries "the seed of the strange infection" that could put more people in danger.

Horror franchise's fourth chapter, which was also co-written by Balaguero, will then show how the deadly virus will change and be revived in the provisional quarantine facility where Angela Vidal will be placed. The strange infection "will take on new and even more deadly forms, setting the scene for horrors we could only have imagined, before finally revealing its true nature."

In a review, Dennis Harvey said the "[REC] 4: Apocalypse" is a "fast-paced and entertaining" horror film. "Picking up where the first sequel ended - with a desultory nod to "[REC] 3′s" underwhelming wedding-party digression - this supposedly final though none-too-conclusive chapter is fast-paced and entertaining, if not especially scary."

Harvey, a certified movie buff, added, "After stumbling with its third entry, Filmax's horror series is more or less back on track with "[REC] 4: Apocalypse."

Produced by Julio Fernandez and Castelao Pictures, the fast paced and entertaining horror flick stars Javier Botet, Manuela Velasco and Paco Manzanedo.
