The Walking Dead spinoff could be set in Los Angeles, according to new reports.

TVLine says that network AMC, - which airs the series in the U.S., plans to give a very different spin on the current show, which focuses on the area in and around Atlanta, Georgia.

The new series has the working title of Cobalt and will possibly be set at a different time than the Andrew Lincoln program.

'Fans have been curious about what is going on in the zombie apocalypse in other parts of the world,' AMC president Charlie Collier said back in September.

However, TV Line suggests that it is not known if the show will film in Los Angeles or another city, which could double for the Californian city, hen shooting commences next year.

Little information has been released about Cobalt, although rumours have indicated that there will be more living humans than undead zombies seen in the area.

Whether that is because of the spread of the plague or because of the timing of the series has not been revealed.

Actor Cliff Curtis has been cast in a starring role as divorced teacher Sean Cabrera who shares a son with his ex wife.

Nancy Tomkins  - the female lead who works as a guidance counsellor is yet to be cast.

However, her son Nick - who has been battling a drug problem - will be played by Harry Potter star Frank Dillane, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Nancy's 'ambitious' daughter Ashley will be portrayed by Into The Woods star Alycia Debnam Carey who hails from Australia.
