Will Facebook Ever Add 'Dislike' Button?

Dec 17, 2014 03:42 PM EST | By Staff Reporter

Facebook has like button, but there is no such button like 'dislike' in it. If Facebook has the facility of 'dislike' button then it would be easier to express the feeling of dislike. But why there is no dislike button in Facebook?

Recently, this question was asked to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. Facebook likely won't provide a Dislike button, he said in answer. He said Facebook thought about it -- then decided against it since such a button could spread negativity. Bloomberg report on it.

Besides, when a Facebook user posts bad news, clicking the Like button to express sympathy doesn't feel quite right.

Facebook Inc. (FB) Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg -- working to sidestep communicating through media -- took matters into his own hands by holding his second public question-and-answer session on 11 December to address users directly.

At the event, held at the social network's Menlo Park, California-based headquarters, Zuckerberg discussed almost every topic on Facebook.

But, with this in mind, the social networking giant is thinking of alternative ways for its members to show they care, without appearing tactless or insensitive.

Mark Zuckerberg admitted he is working on a dislike button - but it is unlikely to be called dislike.'We need to figure out the right way to do it so [the button] ends up being a force for good, not a force for bad.' said Zuckerberg.

However, when such a button will be introduced is not known, and the site has been talking about the feature since 2010.

Though, people can send a Dislike sticker in Facebook Messenger posts.

It is available as part of the Likes sticker package, which also includes a heart, a protest fist,  a hand holding a bunch of flowers, a peace sign and a glass of Champagne, among others.
