After Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler decided to leave "American Idol" after one season, a plethora of celebrities have been interested in taking a judging spot, including legend Aretha Franklin.

Franklin told CNN in an email that she was interested in taking on a judging position for the famous and popular FOX reality show, as she has been a long-time fan of the program, where one person is chosen from a contest to become the next potential pop star.

Franklin's interest in becoming a judge has become so strong that she has already thought of whom she would like alongside her on "American Idol," noted CNN. Franklin said she would love to have fellow legendary singer Patti LaBelle alongside her, though no word has been received thus far if this will actually happen.

CNN contacted FOX regarding Franklin's comment though have not received any response yet.

Over the years, and since the departure of original judges Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul, other notable celebrities have taken the judging chair, including comedian Ellen Degeneres and producer Kara DioGuardi. The latest set of judges included Lopez and Tyler before the pair, within days of each other, announced they were leaving the show to pursue their music careers.

Tyler announced on Thursday that he would not returning as he wanted focus more time on recording music and going on tour with his long-time band, Aerosmith.

Lopez revealed on NBC's "Today," while promoting the release of the third installment of "Ice Age 3: Continental Drift," out this Friday, that she would not be returning to "American Idol," this fall.

Rumors recently surfaced that Grammy-winner Mariah Carey may be up for the judging gig for "American Idol," via US Weekly, though nothing has been confirmed so far.

Currently, Jackson is the only judge who has been on the show since the beginning.
