‘The Whispers’ Season 2 Cancelled? Series Struggling To Attract Live Audience? Showrunner Promises ‘Amazing Conclusion’ For Season 1

Only five episodes in its debut season and questions of whether "The Whispers" season 2 will be cancelled is already being asked. Will ABC renew the science fiction series or not?

There's still no confirmation for a second run and showrunner Zack Estrin admitted that the series has been struggling to build a live audience for higher ratings.

"Our live numbers are OK, but our three days later audience is tremendous. I think it was up 63 percent last week after three days," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "So people are watching the show, they're just choosing to watch it a day or two later."

He also added that "The Whispers" is "a creepy show" and most people opt to watch it "when it's a little bit brighter out."

However, other horror shows have enjoyed high ratings from their live audience despite their late night schedules, such as FX's "American Horror Story" and Showtime's "Penny Dreadful". Then again, the fact that "The Whispers" is still in its freshman season could have contributed to the slow build in ratings.

The fate of "The Whispers" season 2 also faces cast renewal issues, with most of its cast's contracts expiring soon. The show stars Milo Ventimiglia, Lily Rabe and Barry Sloane.

Rabe, in particularly, reportedly wants to leave the show, according to Deadline.

"So they don't have the luxury of letting it play out for the season, then make a decision. Which is unfortunate, because I think this is a show in particular that builds every week," the producer shared.

Nevertheless, Estrin promised fans that whatever ABC decides for the series' sophomore year they would still deliver a satisfying ending for season one.

"The important thing to know is that this entire 13-episode season is going to air. And it's a very satisfying run," he assured.

He also added that viewers shouldn't "lose faith" in the show because "you are going to get a very satisfying season and an amazing conclusion to the season, no matter what."

"There's not going to be some kind of disappointment in the end," Estrin reiterated.

Do you think "The Whispers" season 2 should happen or should it be cancelled? Watch the new series on Mondays, 10 PM at ABC.
