Latest Lionel Messi news are probably the ones that disappoint football fans in the United States. News reports revealed the Argentinian star will not take part in Barcelona's USA tour alongside the likes of Neymar, Javier Mascherano, Dani Alves and Claudio Bravo.

All these players participated in the Copa America 2015 in Chile last month.

Talking to media in Los Angeles, Barcelona manager explained why Lionel Messi is not with them.

"Messi is not in the US because he needs a vacation," Luis Enrique told reporters in Los Angeles, USA on Sunday. "His energy might seem eternal, but he needs a rest sometimes.

"I prefer not to tour, there are more problems than positives. It's a pleasure to come to countries such as the US but there are aspects such as jet lag which aren't ideal.

"We could be doing the same training sessions at home. Then again, it's nice to take part in friendly competitions and we'll try to prepare in training with these games in mind."

The Argentina star, winner of four Ballon d'Or, is coming off a physically and emotionally exhausting Copa America wherein they lost in the finals to hosts Chile in penalty shootout.

The worse part of it is that many Argentinian fans bashed the 27-year Lionel Messi for not being able to steer the country to its first Copa America trophy in almost 20 years. Amid all the bad Lionel Messi news, Argentina legend Diego Maradona come to his defense saying fans should treat him just like any other players in the national squad.

Lionel Messi and Barcelona are just coming off a successful 2014-2015 season, having won three trophies namely Copa del Rey, La Liga, and UEFA Champions League.

They will visit the United States of America to participate in the International Champions Cup which will be joined by MLS club LA Galaxy, New York RB, SJ Earthquakes and European clubs like Manchester United, Paris Saint Germain, Chelsea, Fiorentina, and Benfica.
