Burger King in China has sealed a deal with PepsiCo to serve only Pepsi in its stores instead of its main competitor, Coca-Cola, according to reports.

PepsiCo confirms it as the strategic beverage supplier for all Burger King's  restaurants across China, via franchise bottler Pepsi Beverage Business, according to Beverage Daily.

This is the first time the two giants cooperate in China. The two companies have a business relationship in other markets, such as in the US, Latin America, Russia and Turkey, said PepsiCo.

"There's huge potential to be tapped in China's food and beverage market. We are excited that PepsiCo and Burger King Corp are now joining hands and drawing on each other's strengths in pursuit of win-win cooperation," said Wah-Hui Chu, chairman of PepsiCo Beverages, according to China Daily.

Fountain soda accounts for about a quarter of soft drink sales volume in China, according to the market researcher Euromonitor International.

Globally, still has a far larger share of the broader soft drink market than PepsiCo.

Wah-Hui Chu, chairman of Pepsi Beverages, said, "There's huge potential to be tapped in China's food and beverage market. We're excited that Pepsi and BK are now joining hands and drawing on each other's strengths in pursuit of win-win cooperation.

"The fans of BK will now also get the opportunity to experience a variety of popular PepsiCo beverage products, including Pepsi-Cola, the leading cola brand in China. We look forward to deepening our cooperation with BK stores and providing a wide range of beverage choices and memorable experiences for consumers in China."
