As the first franchise in the region, "MasterChef Asia" has an interesting roster of contestants as it begins airing next week and one of them is an engineer who discovered a passion for food.

This year, various "MasterChef Asia" contestants coming from different regions and professions are competing to win the title. The list has home cooks who are full-time moms, legal professionals, financial experts and more.

One of the "MasterChef Asia" contestants is 27-year-old Lennard Yeong, a Singaporean engineer who was able to find his passion for food and begin his journey after this breakthrough.

His official profile on the "MasterChef Asia" website, he said that cookbooks and YouTube paved the way for him to create new dishes infused with modernist twists.

"Lennard believes the kitchen is where he truly belongs," his profile said. Joining "MasterChef Asia" as one of the most anticipated contestants this year, he wants to turn this passion for food and become successful in the culinary industry.

Lennard Yeong also keeps a blog that publishes content on the joys of tasting palatable delights, may they be fine dining or not. It is here on this blog that he shared how his passion for food took shape, thanks to Anthony Bourdain.

He recalled how one food tried by Anthony Bourdain back in 2008 intrigued him in a unique way. It was a dish from "El Bulli," which Lennard Yeong also tried after seeing it from Bourdain.

In December 2008, I got confirmation of a reservation for August the following year, it was the first reservation I had ever made or gotten at a Michelin starred restaurant," Lennard Yeong shared. "Since then, I've begun a food journey and this is my journal of it."

Apart from being one of the "MasterChef Asia" contestants, Lennard Yeong works in the Jurong Shipyard as a Design Engineer and Estimator, his LinkedIn profile noted. He graduated in the University of California Los Angeles.

Viewers can see the dishes to be made by the "MasterChef Asia" contestants beginning September 3 on Lifetime Channel.
