Will Tom Hiddleston’s Oscar Chances Increase With ‘I Saw The Light’ And ‘High-Rise’?

"Crimson Peak" star Tom Hiddleston's Oscar chances had already been noted in early predictions for the Academy Awards next year.

However, he's recently getting more buzz thanks to his two films in the Torontto International Film Festival 2015 lineup.

His upcoming portrayal of country legend Hank Williams for "I Saw The Light," according to past reports, might give him a bigger chance to enter the Best Actor race. After all, the Academy's track record includes several "harrowing real-life stories," that could also be described as "actors inhabiting the role of famous people." Musically-inclined films, in particular, supposedly get the most attention.

Other early predictions included last year's Best Actor, Eddie Redmayne, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Caine, Johnny Depp and Michael Fassbender.

If director Marc Abraham is right then Hiddleston would have "nailed" the role quite well.

With the Toronto International Film Festival 2015 looming closer, Tom Hiddleston's Oscar chances also seem to have increased as well.

Variety reported that aside from "I Saw The Light," his new thriller film, "High-Rise" will also be premiered at the TIFF 2015.

Bustle noted that the TIFF is "seen as one of the most important predictors awards season - and, specifically, for the Oscars in the spring."

The site further shared that Variety called the Canadian counterpart "second only to Cannes" in terms of influence in the Academy Awards in 1998 and was eventually touted as "the most influential film festival, period" by Time Magazine.

Last year, one of Hiddleston's close actor friends, Benedict Cumberbatch, received the top award at the film festival and eventually gathered nominations from major award-winning bodies.

TIFF 2015 runs from September 10 to 20.

While "I Saw The Light" tells the story of the tormented life of country legend Hank Williams, "High-Rise" is the fictional tale of a residential building full of tenants with mysterious lives.

With two movies on the lineup for TIFF 2015, do you think Tom Hiddleston's Oscar chances have doubled as well?
