Mother Gets Arrested for Leaving Young Children Home Alone to go to McDonald's

A Florida mother went out to McDonald's with her friends and left her two young children home alone. The impulsive decision has left the mom behind bars.

Yanay Rodriguez, 27, was arrested after allegedly leaving her 2-year-old and 10-year-old children home alone while she went out with friends Wednesday night, according to NBC Miami.

One of the neighbors found a toddler crying all alone in the hallways of the apartment building late Wednesday night. The toddler was only wearing a diaper and a shirt, prompting the neighbor to call the police.  The 10-year-old sibling was also left alone, but was inside the apartment.

When Rodriguez returned home about 2:55 a.m., an officer was waiting to arrest her. She told them she was at McDonalds. The children were not hurt.

However, this was not the first time that Rodriguez has had a run in with the law. A record by the Department of Children and Families shows that in 2009, she was arrested for child abuse.

"We have an open investigation and we are cooperating with law enforcement," DCF spokeswoman Lisette Valdes-Valle said.

The two kids are with their father who has joint custody. Jail records show Rodriguez, charged with two counts of child neglect, was released on $5000 bond as of Friday morning.
