Samsung Gear S2 May Get iOS Support But Tizen Smartwatch Could Be A Flop Among iPhone Users

A Samsung official said their Tizen Gear S2 smartwatch may get iOS support in the future. But iPhone users and Apple fans may not warm up to the idea.

"We are looking at possibilities to open it up to iOS," the official told Digital Spy last week.

The statement comes after Samsung said their newest smartwatch will work with Android devices. The only catch is that the said device must be on Android 4.4 or later and have at least 1.5GB of RAM.

Of course, Google also announced Android Wear for iOS which makes Google smartwatches officially work with iPhones.

Then again as DS pointed out, it would be the first time a wearable from the South Korean tech firm would support rival Apple's iOS.

And according to 9to5Mac, a Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch that has iOS support "would leave the Apple Watch as one of the only wearables from a big tech manufacturer not be cross-platform."

With the Tizen smartwatch able to support iOS, this would mean it will run against Cupertino's wearable in terms of iPhone users market share. Or would it?

It's no secret that Apple and Samsung share one of the biggest rivalries in the tech industry, after all.

The two companies even duked it out in court where the Seoul-based tech firm was accused of copying Cupertino's smartphone and tablet designs, as noted by ZDNet.

"Samsung can try to woo iPhone owners with a Tizen-powered Gear S2 smartwatch but if it does, it will be like spitting into the wind," the website said.

Then there's also the fact that Samsung commissioned ads that mocked iPhone owners as pointed out by ZDNet.

Unveiled at IFA 2015, the Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch impressed many in early reviews. It remains to be seen if iPhone owners will have the same warm reception to the Tizen wearable if it does end up with iOS support in the future.
