As part of the first flying "bloomin onion" National Red Bull Flugtag event Friday, Outback Steakhouse is giving away a "free bloomin onion" dish with any purchase to customers who say "the onion flew" Tuesday.

The company's flying machine took flight at Bayfront Park in Miami according to a press release on Restaurant News. Mike Kappit, Chief Marketing Officer, at Outback Steakhouse said the day is a significant one.

National Red Bull Flugtag has been a worldwide celebration for 12 years, and entertains over 500,000 people every year.

"Take that, gravity," he said in a statement. "Today is a great day in Bloomin' Onion history and to celebrate Outback is giving away free Bloomin' Onions on Tuesday, September 24th."

Kappit also said Outback Steakhouse always strives to do the unthinkable and impossible.

"Outback is all about breaking conventions to deliver a better experience for our customers," he said. "We are thankful to our good friends at Red Bull for inviting us to Flugtag and giving us the opportunity to prove that Bloomin' Onions do fly."

The "bloomin onion" craft was made to resemble the restaurant chain's infamous and hand-carved onion dish. During the launch, the aircraft look-a-like off a 30-foot high flight deck.

The offer is valid with any purchase Tuesday, during lunch or dinner whether people choose to dine-in or get food to go. Those interested do not need a coupon. The promotion is also not available for online orders.

Customers cannot receive any other discounts, coupons, or cash value offers from the festivities the release said.

In addition to Outback's first flugtag event, Red Bull also set a record Friday by holding the event simultaneously in Washington DC, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, and Long Beach, along with Miami.
