There were reports early this year that the new Spider-Man won't be white as Marvel introduces Miles Morales in the reboot.

"Spider-Man is going to be most likely black," Jeff Sneider told Meet The Movie Press. "But there is a chance he could also be Latino. 95% sure not white."

The Wrap correspondent also explained why the producers will be introducing a character of different race.

"I really feel strongly - Sony has an opportunity to beat Marvel and DC to the punch with sort of a major black comic book movie character," Sneider said. "Like I mentioned last week, the e-mails that leaked were perceived to be racist in some quarters. I really think that is going to play into things."

The rumors of having a black Spider-Man in the reboot died when Tom Holland was introduced as the new Peter Parker.

The producers also announced that the new "Spider-Man" movie will be directed by Jon Watts, who is known for his work in "Cop Car" and "Clown."

During a recent interview with Yahoo Movies, the 34-year-old filmmaker hinted that Miles Morales may also appear in the reboot.

"I can't talk about that, because, you know, that will reveal too much," Watts explained. "We're still writing the story... we haven't finished all the way through the story yet, so who knows."

According to the website, the producers have already been casting for the role of the black superhero. Some of the actors that allegedly auditioned include Marcus Scribner who starred in "Black-ish" and Donald Glover who appeared in "The Martian" and "Magic Mike XXL."

Before the names of these two actors surfaced, Tyler James Williams was one of the top candidates.

"I kind of followed the Miles Morales character quite a bit - my brother really did, so he suggested if it goes that way it could work," he told Flicks in the City. "And I'm open to the idea, I am."

Among the three aforementioned actors, it seems that Donald Glover has an edge because he's already doing the voice of Miles Morales in the "Ultimate Spider-Man" TV series. Maybe Marvel's preparing him for the reboot.
