NBA Trade Rumors: Celtics To Risk Going After Injury Prone Joel Embiid?

Oct 20, 2015 09:34 PM EDT | By Rolly Gacelo

NBA trade rumors from the last couple of months claim Boston Celtics are looking for a reliable big man.

In fact, it was reported that they are chasing Al Horford of the Atlanta Hawks.

In this latest NBA trade rumor, it seems Celtics are looking in the wrong place. Yibada wrote, citing an SI report, that the 2008 NBA champions could go after Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid.

"The Celtics still dream of a dominant big man, and the opportunity may have opened up if they are willing to take a risk," Yibada wrote.

"Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers may end up on the block based on a report from SI that he has been a problem for the team."

This is a risky move if ever. Embiid, the third overall pick of 2014, is yet to suit up for the Eastern Conference franchise due to the broken navicular bone in his foot before the start of the 2014-2015 season. He is supposed to return this season but was ruled out again for the same injury last August.

It is said that it was Embiid who refused to follow recommendations from his doctors for his thorough recovery.

"According to sources, this followed a pattern of insubordination from Embiid during the rehabilitation of his initial foot injury that sidelined him for the entire 2014-15 season, where he would repeatedly refuse to answer questions from the training staff about his workouts and therapy sessions."

Yibada was also among the first to write on NBA trade rumors concerning Horford to Celtics back in September.

"A report from NESN identifies the possible "big and powerful" players that the Celtics are eyeing. Two of the most viable choices are Al Horford and Tristan Thompson," Yibada said quoting its source.

"Al Horford has been a Conference rival for years now, and he is part of an Atlanta team that has been middling in the playoffs until last year's breakthrough, when they finished first in the Conference. However, that still did not translate into a Finals appearance."
