Neill Blompkamp Assures Fans: ‘Alien 5’ Will Not ‘Tread On The Toes’ Of ‘Prometheus 2’

Neill Blompkamp's "Alien 5" and Ridley Scott's "Prometheus 2", now officially titled "Alien: Covenant," are being developed at the same time, which does not usually happen for the "Alien" franchise, but in a recent interview with Empire, Blompkamp guaranteed to fans that his work will not "tread on the toes" of Scott's film.

"I changed the one thing [Scott] felt was bumping Prometheus a little bit," Neill Blompkamp told Empire. "One thing that makes me feel good about it is that Ridley is producing it. He likes the idea of what I want to make."

Neill Blompkamp made it clear that he is coordinating with Ridley Scott for "Alien 5." He even revealed that he told Scott about the title he has in mind for "Alien 5." He said, "I sent the title I wanted to Ridley. It's kinda quite bold, but it gives away too much if I say the title. But in the event that it doesn't work, I'm dead in the water."

In a recent interview with Icons of Fright (via Scified), "Aliens" actor Michael Biehn confirmed that Scott and Fox doesn't want "Aliens 5" and "Prometheus 2" to "come out right next to each other."

"They're talking about doing another ALIENS movie, with Neill Blompkamp, and Fox came and announced it and Sigourney [Weaver] has come out and announced it. The basic idea is acting like ALIEN 3 and 4 never existed, so if you go on Neill Blompkamp's site, everyone can see all of the artwork for that," Biehn said.

He added, "I know Ridley Scott is doing his movie first and is going to be the executive producer on this one ["Alien 5"], so I'm really looking forward to that. I know that Ridley's focus is on the second PROMETHEUS (now titled ALIEN: COVENANT) and I'm sure that he and Fox both don't want that and Neill's movie to come out right next to each other, because they're kind of two different worlds, with ALIENS taking place thousands of years later, which is how they explained it all to me, but at the same time, they want to give them a similar feel."

"I know they're putting the brakes on Neill's movie just for a little while, but I really think that it would be embarrassing to Ridley and Fox and Sigourney if they just didn't make the movie," Biehn finally said.

Scified, in its report, said that Neill Blompkamp's "Alien 5" is eyeing for a 2017 release while Ridley Scott's "Alien: Covenant" was recently announced for an October 6, 2017 release date.
