Eva Longoria On Her New Show: ‘Telenovela’ Is 10 Times Funnier Than ‘Desperate Housewives’

Dec 04, 2015 12:40 PM EST | By Romeo Vasquez

Former "Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria is set to return on primetime with "Telenovela," a comedy based on the idea of Longoria, herself, which will debut with a two-episode preview on Dec. 7 in NBC and will then premiere its regular half-hour slot every Monday 8:30 P.M starting on Jan. 4.

Published in Deadline, "Telenovela" will follow the story of Ana Sofia Calderon played by Eva Longoria, the lead star of a long-running VivaVision Spanish soap opera and who also acts as the show's executive producer. Working for a Latino show, Ana Sofia badly tries to hide her inability to speak Spanish.

"Telenovela is a welcome reflection of America 2015 as well as an on-the-money satire and love letter to a beloved TV genre watched by millions daily," Deadline wrote.

Eva Longoria's new show will be written by Chrissy Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein. Also starring in "Telenovela" are Jose Moreno Brooks as Gael Garnica, a gay gym rat; Diana Maria Riva as the wardrobe supervisor and Ana Sofia's bestfriend; Jencarlos Canela as Xavier, Ana Sofia's ex-husband who cheated on her; Alex Meneses as Isabela, Ana Sofia's rival on set who used to be the show's star; and Amaury Nolasco as Rodrigo, the off-screen villain.

Talking to BANG Magazine during the Global Gift Gala charity event in London on Monday, Eva Longoria assured that "Telenovela" will be golden.

"It's so funny, it's big and broad. It's set behind-the-scenes of a Spanish soap opera and features all the drama and comedy that happens behind the scenes. I play the star of this Spanish soap opera that doesn't actually speak Spanish," Longoria said (via NZ City).

The actress went on to brag that her new show would be much funnier than "Desperate Housewives." She said, "It's so funny. If you liked 'Housewives,' this is 10 time funnier to me. I think people are really going to love it."
