The Holidays are here, which means fans of Benedict Cumberbatch are already on the edge of their seat waiting for the "Sherlock" Christmas special to air.

BBC already revealed that the said one-off episode will be airing on New Year's Day.

The "Doctor Strange" star initially didn't think that the time period to the original era would work, especially since the British show has already proven itself a success with its current run.

"In fact, I went, 'You're mad,'" he reportedly said when producers Stephen Moffat and Mark Gatiss first pitched the idea to him. "I genuinely didn't understand how they were going to get away with it."

However, after the duo shared their ideas for the one-off special, "The Imitation Game" actor realized that the Christmas special could actually work.

"And then I got the more detailed pitch and I thought, 'OK, this is going to be great fun.' And it really is," he added.

Now, Benedict Cumberbatch can't wait for the "Sherlock" Christmas special to air.

"I thought they'd finally lost the plot, jumped the shark, and all the other cliches of television gone mad with itself. Then they expanded the idea and pitched it to me properly and now I think it's fantastic, absolutely brilliant," Cumerbatch recently shared about the episode, as reported by Wales Online.

Titled "The Abominable Bride," the episode will feature the popular duo in the original Victorian setting. Previous spoilers already noted that the usually sociopathic detective will be a lot nicer and will behave as a gentleman in this special airing.

This doesn't mean fans won't see him as the curly-haired detective in the modern era, however. The cast and crew will be congregating sometime in April to film the fourth season of the popular series.

Benedict Cumberbatch also promised to keep playing Sherlock Holmes until he's old.

"I'm still enjoying it," he told RadioTimes as reported by Huffington Post. "We'll see how the next series goes, but I'd love to keep ageing with him."
