‘Prometheus 2,’ ‘Alien: Covenant’ Update: Film To Re-Introduce Xenomorph And Its Evolution

"Prometheus 2", or "Alien: Covenant" officially, is currently having script revisions by John Logan and as revealed by director Ridley Scott in a new interview, it seems the "Prometheus" sequel is now focusing on the "Alien," highlighting the Xenomorph and its evolution.

In an interview with The Wrap, Ridley Scott, when told, "Your next film is a sequel to Prometheus," clarified and said, "Well, really it's 'Alien.'"

Ridley Scott added, "They're going to go to the planet where the engineers came from, and come across the evolving creature that they had made. Why did they make it? Why would they make such a terrifying beast? It felt bio-mechanoid, it felt like a weapon. And so the movie will explain that, and re-introduce the alien back into it."

"There was always this discussion: Is Alien, the character, the beast, played out or not? We'll have them all: egg, face-hugger, chest-burster, then the big boy. I think maybe we can go another round or two," Scott said further.

Director Scott thought that they had made something special when they introduced the creature back in the first "Alien." He also paid tribute to H.R. Giger, the painter, illustrator and creature designer responsible for "Alien."

"Without the creature, the film wouldn't have been the same," Scott said.

Apparently Scott also hinted the highlighting of the evolution of the beast in "Alien: Covenant" during a press conference in Sydney, where the pre-production of the film is set to start. In the press conference, Scott said, "So I'm going to the next one, which is the next evolution directly connected with the first one, which was this Shaw, when he replaced Michael Fassbender in two pieces and we'll kind of pick it up there and it will evolve. When that's finished there'll be another one and then another one, which will gradually drive into the back entrance of the film in 1979."

"So in other words, why was this space jockey there and why did he have an Alien inside him? And those questions will be answered," the director added.

Scified, on the other hand, said that focusing on the xenomorph for the "Prometheus" sequel essentially goes against what Ridley Scott said last month about the beast being "cooked" and overused. That being said, the report said that this current update may take the expansion of the "Prometheus" lore in the backseat and commented that hopefully, Scott would stay on course and keep the momentum, especially that there are still several sequels lined up.
