Samsung Galaxy S5 Release (UPDATE): Could Smartphone Handle Water Accidents?

Samsung's Galaxy s5 smartphone will be able to handle water when its released in April the Guardian Liberty Voice reported Wednesday.

"For the Samsung Galaxy S5, the standard model will have them (water and dust-proof capabilities) immediately," an unnamed source told ZDNet Korea.

According to ZDNet Korea, consumers will see a replica of how the phone will look in the coming week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Spain Monday through Friday.

Consumers will be able to slide a number through a button on the smartphone to access it. This is different than the TouchID sensor on Apple's iPhone 5 The Guardian reported.

Samsung and Sony could become the frontrunners of the waterproof phones that can handle beverage spills, baths, and unforeseen trips into the toilet The Liberty Voice reported.

Samsung wanted to unveil the new gadgets at the same time it makes a push on promoting its tablet computers as part of efforts to keep ahead of Apple's devices, and companies in China promoting items with $100 price tags Bloomberg reported.

Samsung's Galaxy s4 also had waterproof capabilities under the name Active The Liberty Voice reported. The phone was bigger, and more dense than the s5 is expected to be.

Rumors also called for the new phone to have an adjustable OLED YOUM display screen measuring 5.3 inches, and a leather base rather than metal the website reported.

Samsung will instead use the metal material in their series of Galaxy F series or its line of Android devices the website reported.

Apple is discontinuing its basic and less expensive iPhone 5C smartphone when its latest iPhone 6 smartphone is released in 2014 The Wall Street Journal reported in January. The newest phone is expected to have an enlarged sapphire glass screen, which will use material made at a plant in Arizona.
