Talks on the production of a TV series for the novel "American Gods" have surfaced online since early 2011. Almost four years after, production remains in its planning stage.

"American Gods" revolves around ancient and modern mythology, lead by distinct characters that can only come out from Gaiman's imagination. The story follows the adventures of ex-con Shadow as he re-orients himself back into the world while being caught right smack in the middle of a brewing war between the old and new gods of America.

Published in 2001, it has received numerous awards including both Hugo and Nebula citations and has gathered millions of fans around the world, translated into almost 30 languages.

Neil Gaiman himself posted on his website [www.journal.neilgaiman.com], that the adaptation was originally slated to be an HBO series. A few pilot drafts after, it was then passed on to come out in Cinemax, and it didn't.

Fans have been left wanting and waiting, and it was only this year that news updates surfaced online, with high hopes that news will be an "American Gods" TV show release date.

February this year, there have been major developments on the production. Though there is still no "American Gods" TV show release date announced, Gaiman reaffirms that the show is in the works, but not with HBO.

"The people at Fremantle are the kinds of people who have copies of 'American Gods' in the bottom of their backpacks after going around the world, and who press them on their friends. And the team at Starz have been quite certain that they wanted to give Shadow, Wednesday and Laura a home since they first heard that the book was out there," shared Gaiman during the press release.

Bryan Fuller, screenwriter and television producer known for series such as "Pushing Daisies" and "Hannibal" and Michael Green, producer and screenwriter known for "Green Lantern" joins Gaiman in this project.
