"G.I. Joe" 3 movie release date has been officially set for 2016!

Following the success of the "G.I. Joe" franchise, the call for superhero movies grows by the minute. While the characters in G.I. Joe is your average hero unlike the super powerful mutants or gifted humans, fans continue to call out for the next installment.

Real American heroes G.I. Joe are set to another bout with the enemies of darkness personified by Cobra Commander and his allies in the upcoming "G.I. Joe 3". Writing is underway, shared by director Jon M. Chu. While nothing has been set on stone, the director reveals what is planned for the next adventure.

In an interview with Collider.com, Jon enlightens fans about the plans for the upcoming installment.

"G.I. Joe" 3 is open to including additional characters, as much as the second sequel. However, Jon confirms the difficulty with multiple characters in the movie. As much as it's fun for both crew and audiences, the complexity is there-but that doesn't mean it won't happen. In his interview with MTV, he shares that there are indeed characters returning, and newcomers to look out for.

As the director does confirm the return of headliners, Bruce Willis and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, he teases the possible coming back of Channing Tatum's character, Duke.

Not an impossible move especially in the G.I. Joe franchise, the revival of Duke is highly conceivable-taking into account the apparent death of Storm Shadow in the first film. In an interview with MTV, Jon is quoted saying:

"You new know, Storm Shadow died in the first one and came back in the second one, and then other characters have died and never come back. The G.I. Joe world, the best thing about it is you never know who's coming back and who's not."
