One of world's largest music-streaming app Spotify can now be downloaded for free for Windows Phone, following its release for Android and iOS-powered smartphones all over the world. Users of Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 devices can now enjoy music. The app also displays a better search and discovery features for users who want to look for their favorite artists or new and upcoming musicians.

Meanwhile, music-streaming app Spotify also launched its "Serendipity Map," a feature on the app that shows when two people are playing the same song at the same time, anywhere in the world.

The "Serendipity Map" is an online map that shows coordinates when two Spotify users play the same song at the same time.

Although the "Serendipity Map" is not live, it can reflect real-time data that was recently recorded over a one-hour period. According to music-streaming app Spotify, "'Serendipity' is guided by a simple question: how often do people listen to the same song in sync with each other?"

Kyle McDonald, the first Media Artist in Residence of Spotify found out that "every second, there are at least ten pairs of people who start listening to the same song within a tenth of a second of each other."

As Spotify found out, "these connections also crosses time zones, borders and oceans. Other times it's two people in the same city, unaware of each other. If you're listening to a popular song, there's a good chance someone else is listening to it in sync with you."

According to The Verge, The frequent hackathons, hack days and jam sessions of Spotify gave McDonald the idea of creating the Serendipity feature. "25-50 million people are listening to music on Spotify at any moment, and 10-20,000 songs are started every second!" he said.

The Verge commented that although the "Serendipity Map" is not mainly useful, it presents a "fantastic visualization of how music spreads - and of the reach of Spotify's user base."
