Host/comedian Joan Rivers died last September 4 on cardiac arrest after having complications that put her on life support for a few days. Joan Rivers' funeral was held on September 7 inside Manhattan's Temple Emanu-El and was described a true "Hollywood" funeral due to the number of Hollywood stars who paid their respects to one of Hollywood's most memorable hosts.
The 81-year old comedian Joan Rivers will always be remembered as one of the most daring female comedians and talk show hosts in this era. Her ability to deliver witty and brazen comments are a few reasons that made her popular on TV.
Rivers was blessed with an honest tongue which garnered mixed comments from the public. Some people commend her for saying things that everyone is thinking but deems too insulting to say, while others criticize her for being too blunt.
Joan was best known for her work on the E! celebrity fashion show Fashion Police where she reviewed fashion details of what celebrities donned at the red carpet. She co-hosted the show for four years from 2010 until 2014. She also starred in her own reality series Joan and Melissa: Joan Knows Best? from 2011-2014. Apart from her TV exposure, Joan was also a writer who authored several best-selling memoirs and humor books.
Joan was also involved in philanthropy. She appeared in a Comic Relief benefit for the AIDS Medical Foundation in New York last May 1985, supported Elton John AIDS Foundation and God's Love We Deliver which provides food for patients with HIV/AIDS in New York. She was called "Joan of ARC" by the HIV/AIDS community because of her dedication on her philanthropic work.
She also supported and helped out several non-profit organizations such as Guide Dogs for the Blind, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Rosie's Theater Kids, Habitat for Humanity and Human Rights Campaign.
