Food Lion announced closing all 1,100 stores across ten states on Christmas day in weeks following Walmart and Costco's lead.

The grocery chain will be open from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. on December 24.

Food Lion will close stores for a Good Reason

The grocery chain is now among the many U.S. stores closing for a special reason. Workers will get to enjoy Christmas at home on December 25. However, they will still be working on Christmas Eve.

Food Lion hopes employees will enjoy spending time with their families on Christmas day. As reported, Christmas is the only holiday when the grocery store completely closes.

Patrons are advised to check out the Food Lion's website to confirm the particular store hours in their locations.

Throughout December, retail workers in the U.S. have been busier than usual. Big grocery stores like Walmart and Costco were among the first to declare they'd close for the holidays. Following them, many convenience stores have also decided to shut their doors on Christmas.

As Christmas Day 2023 approaches, knowing which stores will be open is essential, especially since many will shut down or operate with reduced hours on Christmas Eve and leading up to the holiday.

Several grocery and convenience stores will remain open for those who need last-minute groceries, gifts, or other items. 7-Eleven will operate its usual 24-hour service. Safeway, while varying by location, will mostly open from 7 am to 4 pm.

Casey's and Cumberland Farm's hours may vary, so checking with local stores is advised. Speedway and Circle K will maintain their regular 24-hour operations, though some Circle K stores might have reduced hours.

Pharmacies and drugstores like Walgreens, CVS, and Rite Aid will also be open, but with some stores operating on reduced hours, it's best to see with your local store for specific timings.

In a recent report, Food Lion is responding to the growing trend of online grocery shopping by extending its Food Lion To Go pickup service to 35 additional stores.

These new locations, spread across Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Delaware, Virginia, and West Virginia, will start offering the service on December 11. This expansion means that around 90% of Food Lion's stores across ten states now provide pickup or home delivery options.

This expansion is timed for the holiday season, aiming to simplify customer shopping. As a special introductory offer, Food Lion gives customers their first free pickup.

Customers can check availability and place orders through the Food Lion To Go website or app to use the service. This convenient service allows customers to order online and collect their groceries the same day without leaving their vehicle while enjoying the same low prices and fresh products they expect from Food Lion.

With this rollout, Food Lion emphasizes its dedication to providing customers with convenient, affordable, and high-quality grocery shopping experiences.

Evan Harding, Food Lion's Director of Digital and eCommerce, expressed the company's enthusiasm for the expansion.

"We are excited to expand this convenient service to more stores in the Food Lion footprint and support our neighbors, especially during one of the busiest times of the year," Harding stated.

He emphasized that the Food Lion To Go service allows customers to shop in-store or online while still accessing fresh and affordable groceries.
