In a surprising turn of events, The Body Shop, a well-known beauty store chain, has suddenly stopped all business activities in the United States. This decision is due to financial problems affecting the company worldwide.

The Body Shop confirmed that all its stores across the US are now closed. This move marks the end of the company's operations in the country. The announcement has surprised customers and employees, leaving many wondering about the future of the popular beauty brand in the US.

Body Shop Shuts Down US Stores

The Body Shop officially ended its business activities in the United States on March 1, the company announced through a press release. This closure shocked many, marking the end of the road for the beauty retailer's presence in the US.

Just a few months ago, in December 2023, The Body Shop was operating more than 60 stores across the country, as reported by ScrapeHero. However, the sudden decision to close these stores has left customers and employees facing an unexpected reality.

Adding to the surprise, The Body Shop in Canada has also been facing challenges. The Canadian branch of the company revealed it has begun a restructuring process.

Specifically, it has filed a Notice of Intention to Make a Proposal under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act. This move suggests financial struggles are affecting not only The Body Shop in the US but also its operations in Canada.

The Body Shop has announced that 33 of its 105 stores nationwide are set to close. Despite the closures, the remaining stores are still open for now. The closing stores have started liquidation sales, marking down prices to clear inventory. Additionally, the retailer's Canadian website has stopped accepting online orders, signaling a shift in how customers can shop for their products.

This move is part of a larger restructuring effort for the beauty retailer. As part of this process, The Body Shop has changed its policies, including no longer accepting gift cards. CBC News reports that Customers will also be unable to purchase new gift cards or receive refunds for previous purchases.

The closures affect several major cities, with stores in Toronto, Ottawa, and Calgary among those set to shut their doors. This decision reflects the financial challenges the company is facing, impacting both employees and shoppers alike.

In December 2023, AURELIUS GROUP acquired The Body Shop, initiating a restructuring phase managed by Alvarez & Marsal Canada Inc. This followed the beauty retailer's plunge into financial difficulties in the UK, leading to its collapse into administration on February 13.

The company's struggle, attributed to years of unprofitability, prompted the immediate closure of seven UK stores, as reported by The Sun, with more expected to shut down. Additionally, around 270 head office jobs in the UK will be cut, though the impact on North American employment remains unclear.

The restructuring signals a critical turning point for The Body Shop, facing a future of significant changes amidst ongoing financial challenges. The U.S. Sun has sought comments from The Body Shop for further insights into the situation.
