International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) is partnering with New York City to develop a website allowing technology startup companies to connect with other groups, applicants and investors.

The partnership will primarily function through its website, Digital.NYC, where resources are made available to entrepreneurial leaders.

"This is the first of its kind anywhere in the world, a public-private partnership to really bring all of the aspects of the industry together," New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said during a press conference announcing the initiative.

"This is going to be a Main Street for the tech community. It's going to be a crossroads where people come together and find each other in an easier and quicker way, and that's going to open up tremendous potential for even faster growth for this community."

Digital.NYC was produced alongside the New York City Economic Development Corp with the software development of Gust, a web platform specialist group.

DeBlasio's announcement was made in Dumbo Heights, an area of Brooklyn dedicated to tech development, similar to "Silicon Alley" in Manhattan.
