Taylor Swift Talks The Voice And Chris Martin Influence; Out Of The Woods Singer Discusses Sexism

Taylor Swift's "The Voice" guesting as a mentor is a sure go and Chris Martin played a big part in the pop star's decision. E! Online reports that Taylor Swift's "The Voice" stint was decided on the "Shake It Off" singer in part because of what the Coldplay frontman did on the show during the previous season.

"I'd seen that Chris Martin had done it and Chris is one of my favorite frontman of one of my favorite bands," she told the publication in an interview. "So I went and researched what he had done...and when [NBC] reached out to me, I thought you had to watch people and tell them whether they're good or bad and it's not that at all."

The singer, who recently released the third single "Welcome To New York" off her new album "1989," added, "It's much more interesting and fun and kind of freestyle than that. So I'm having the best time!"

While the country-turned-pop singer is excited about her stint on the singing competition, she doesn't share the same sentiment about the issue of sexism.

In an interview with Esquire, Swift explained her take on sexism, saying "I think with every celebrity story there has to be a 'Yeah, but...' Take Beyonce: She's incredibly talented, gorgeous, perfect role model for girls, empowering women all over the world. 'Yeah, but...let's try to pick at her marriage.'"

Swift added, "I think that every celebrity has that. And predominantly women, unfortunately. I would date someone, figure out we weren't compatible or figure out we didn't work out, and then we'd break up. That seems like a very normal thing for a young 20-something to do, and that is my biggest scandal."

But the singer is determined to just shake it off. "The only think I can't control is the spin in the press," she said. "And so I know I can't control that, I have to let it go. In some ways, though, you can control it. I really didn't like the whole serial-dater thing. I thought it was a really sexist angle on my life."

Well, the singer might not be too excited about dating but at least we can expect a Taylor Swift on "The Voice" that's happy and enthusiastic when she makes her debut on the show on October 27 (the same day her album drops).
