Here Comes Honey Boo Boo Cancelled: TLC Cancels Honey Boo Boo After Reports Saying Mama June Dating Registered Sex Offender

Oct 25, 2014 10:32 AM EDT | By Staff Reporter

TLC has officially canceled its once-hugely popular reality series about the former "Toddlers and Tiaras" personality (real name Alana Thompson) and her colorful family.

The news comes just a day after TMZ posted a story that alleges series matriarch June Shannon is currently romantically linked with a man convicted of child molestation, prompting an immediate response from the network that it was "reassessing" the future of the franchise.

"TLC has canceled the series Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and ended all activities around the series, effective immediately," reads a network statement. "Supporting the health and welfare of these remarkable children is our only priority. TLC is faithfully committed to the children's ongoing comfort and well-being."

Shannon, "Mama June" to viewers of the series, is said to be dating Mark McDaniel, a register sex offender in the state of Georgia who spent 10 years in prison on a child molestation conviction.

Shannon's relationship with McDaniel comes on the heels of word that she had split from her partner (and co-star) Mike "Sugar Bear" Thompson.

"Honey Boo Boo" was as close to a cultural phenomenon as TLC has enjoyed since the heyday of Jon & Kate Plus 8. Though it never enjoyed the ratings bonanza of contemporaries like "Duck Dynasty," it was a huge performer for the network.

In summer 2012, when attention may have been at critical mass, a single telecast even out-rated most networks' individual coverage of the Republican National Convention.

"Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" was produced by "Toddlers & Tiaras" producers Authentic Entertainment.
