From Comedian To Post-Apocalyptic Action Hero? Rob Riggle Plays Frank In Dead Rising Movie; Release Date ON VOD And Crackle To Be Declared Soon!

Although the producers have yet to declare the "Dead Rising" movie release date, they have already ensured that it would be available on Crackle and VOD. Also, they have rounded up their selected stars for the key roles with Rob Riggle portraying the role of Frank West.

Not too many fans and observers may have expected Riggle to be in the lead role. Known as a comedian who starred in cop comedy flicks like "21 Jump Street," "22 Jump Street" and "Let's Be Cops," as reported by Hallels, he may not strike people as someone capable of slamming a Servbot helmet on zombies.

But being a retired US Marine and having worked as a correspondent for the "Daily Show" where he covered news of real wars according to Polygon, Riggle does have the chops to do combat, albeit only in movies and against a horde of brain-eating zombies for now.

In the "Dead Rising" movie, Riggle as Frank West is a seasoned photojournalist specializing in zombie epidemics. Polygon shared the film's storyline sourced from Legendary Media and Crackle.

The story begins during the onset of a massive zombie epidemic. After a government-approved vaccine proves useless, the four lead characters, which includes West, are tasked to find a cure while evading infection at the same time. It was in the midst of their nerve-wracking search that they stumble upon clues hinting at a possible government conspiracy. The mix of political issues, public fear and media coverage further heighten the atmosphere of confusion, dread and suspense during their search.

Tim Carter is both the writer and co-producer of the film, along with Tim Harlan. Fans may recognize him for his other popular works such as "Sleeping Dogs" and "Mortal Kombat: Legacy."

They may not have settled on a final release date just yet, but they have clarified that the "Dead Rising" movie would first debut on Crackle before it can be streamed through streaming sites, and then followed by DVD.
