Clay Aiken Congressional Run Didn't Go Well But He Will Get A TV Series Because Of It

Nov 06, 2014 05:16 AM EST | By Staff Reporter

Clay Aiken congressional run didn't go well. Just like what happened at the second season of the American Idol where he was beaten by Ruben Studdard, the 35-year old singer placed only second on his congressional bid for the 2nd District of North Carolina. Aiken, a candidate by the Democrat House, got only 41 percent of the total vote to lose to incumbent Republican Rep. Renee Ellmers who got 59 percent.

Clay Aiken accepted his fate with no bitter feelings.

"The result did not go the way we wanted it to tonight, but we've walked down this path once - or twice - before. And when about 11 years ago, after 'American Idol' we came up short in another vote, we found reason to be happy, we found opportunity to see a win," Aiken said.

Although a figure in televisions and concerts, Clay Aiken didn't use his fame and singing talent during his campaign in the North Carolina elections. In an interview with US News, he said that he has 'retired' from singing for a while. Speaking about what made him run for congress, the 2003 American Idol runner-up said that he is not entering politics but working to promote a greater cause.

"I'm not entering politics - I'm trying to do something to speak up for people who put me in this position in the first place."

Although Clay Aiken's congressional didn't go the way his relatives and fans expected, they would still get more of the Invisible singer through a television series. As per Politico, Clay Aiken will star in a reality-documentary series featuring his days while on campaign. The four-hour series will commence early next year and was shot when Aiken announced that he would seek a seat in the House on February of this year.

"And in turn [we] were able to capture the internal workings of an American campaign - the good, the bad and the ugly," Simon Chinn, one of the series' documentarians said.
