Sears Hometown Stores Campaigns For Local Fire Departments

Nov 07, 2014 06:04 PM EST | By Staff Reporter

Sears Hometown Stores launched a charity campaign called "Salute to Local Heroes". The movement is in partnership with the National Volunteer Fire Council aiming to raise funds to support one local fire department for each community store location.

Providing firehouses across the nation is the campaign's objective. Funds will help support local heroes of firehouses with a detracting budget in improving their resources for equipment, financial support and training.

CEO of National Volunteer Fire Council, Heather Schafer, said, "Volunteer firefighters provide a service to their local communities that is valued at more than $147 billion per year, yet they often do not have the funding to meet their own basic needs." Schafer also said that they compliments Sears Hometown Stores for having the 'Salute to Local Heroes' campaign that supports their local fire departments in protecting lives and properties."

Starting today until December 31st, customers have the opportunity to contribute toward their local fire department while purchasing to Sears Hometown Stores. Company employees can also join the campaign by doing the same. Local fire stations in the store's community will benefit from all the money raised from the campaign. Aside from the donation, buying each Craftsman® Bottle Cap Wrench will give $1 directly to the local department of customer's choice.

Funds that will go directly to local fire departments will support first responders and focus on providing them with equipment such as protective gear, medical apparatuses, rescue tools, thermal imaging devices, trucks, etc. The campaign also aims to provide training, assistance and family support when responders got injured, and other programs that local heroes need.

The company started the campaign last year and it shows success with the enormous outpour from firehouses expressing their need for funds.

David Buckley, Chief Marketing Officer of Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores, Inc. which operates Sears Hometown Stores stated, "Considering the success of this program last year, we believe this is a great way for us to have a continuous, positive impact on the communities in which we serve."

Sears department store started in Illinois in 1983.
