The Newsroom Season 3 Returns: Jeff Daniels Talks About That Speech That Awaken America And Why Show Creator Aaron Sorkin Is Criticized

The Newsroom Season 3 release date is happening today. The political drama is set to return on television after one year of absence, bringing in the same cast and the same agenda, to change the way people view and do news reporting. One scene that set the tone for the show is the speech made by Jeff Daniels' Will McAvoy at the start of the first episode in the first season. That speech raised eyebrows but for some, it was on point when it comes to how Americans should view their country.

For Daniels, who is also set to launch the sequel of his hit film Dumb and Dumber five days after the premier of the Newsroom Season 3, that was the kind of speech that one would want to have, one of the most precious.

"You wait decades for that speech," Daniels told in an interview with the Daily Beast. "I'm old enough that when it came, I knew what I was looking at. 'This is the speech you've been waiting to do in front of a camera for 40 years. Don't fuck it up.'"

Many expect more of that eye opening speech, rants, whatever you may call it, in the Newsroom Season 3. For Daniels, the show will stick to what it he has done over the past seasons. He said that it will continue to tackle the problems in society.

"We got a real problem," Daniels says, when asked how does it affect the real life media. "Mostly it's ignored that you completely fuck it up, that you got the story wrong. If you put a Mission Accomplished banner on the ship, they'll believe it. That's not news. That's not Cronkite, or Murrow. Those guys are still out there, but man they're being stampeded."

Daniels also addressed questions why Sorkin is being criticized for the Newsroom. According to the veteran actor, it is because of artistic reasons while others hate him because they want to bring him down.

"There are critics who don't like The Newsroom for artistic reasons, and I'll give them that," he says. "But there are some who make a name out of taking Aaron Sorkin down, by blasting him in their blog overly so."

Other actors who will reprise their roles in The Newsroom Season 3 are Emily Mortimer, John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Dave Patel, and Olivia Munn.
