Minions To Be Released: The Liveliest And Cutest Creatures On Animated World By Illumination Entertainment!

Nov 11, 2014 01:00 PM EST | By Staff Reporter

Minions is an upcoming American 3D computer-animated comedy film produced by Illumination Entertainment for Universal Pictures.

It is a spin-off/ prequel to Despicable Me (2010) and Despicable Me 2 (2013), which is written by Brian Lynch, will be directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda, and produced by Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy.

The film was first teased in the ending credits of Despicable Me 2, where three Minions are seen auditioning for the film.

Minions are a rambunctious bunch of simple-minded homunculi. They are small, yellow (bad Minions are violet-appeared on Despicable Me 2), cylindrical, creatures who have one or two eyes with a similar size and shape, but they also have unique features such as hair, eye or pupil size or clothing.

They are impulsive creatures with little self-control, but with wide-eyed wonder and odd innocence that endears to viewers and makes them relatable. They can be bothersome when they are doing weird interactions with other people, animals, or objects.

Regarding appearances, Minions wear goggles accommodating their number of eyes, blue overall with Gru's emblem on the front, and small black gloves.

The story will start with Minions' existence. Since the beginning of time, evolving from yellow single-celled organisms into beings who have only one purpose: to serve history's most ambitious villains. After accidentally destroying all their masters, including a T. Rex, Genghis Khan, Dracula, and Napoleon, they decide to isolate themselves from the world and start a new life in Antarctica.

Sometime in the 1960s, the lack of a master drives them into depression, so Kevin comes up with a plan to find a new one. Joined by teenage rebel Stuart and little Bob, they arrive at a villain convention, where they compete for the right to be henchmen for Scarlet Overkill, a stylish and ambitious villain determined to dominate the world and become the first female super-villain.

Travelling through New York City, they end up in London, where they must confront a threat that wants to eliminate all Minions.

The movie casts famous actors like Sandra Bullock, who will voice Scarlet Overkill, the villain of the film, and Jon Hamm will voice her husband, inventor Herb Overkill.

Minions is scheduled to be released on July 10, 2015.
