Apple Beats: Apple Plans To Push Beats Music On All Devices Reports Say

Nov 20, 2014 08:40 AM EST | By Staff Reporter

Reports say Apple plans to push its Beats Music service to all iPhone and iPads next year in a bid to make its mark on the music streaming market.

The Financial Times reports that Apple will equip iPhones and iPads with Beats Music via a software update, which could arrive as soon as March.

The move represents the first attempt to capitalize on Beats since Apple acquired the firm for $3bn earlier this year.

It is unclear whether the streaming service will arrive under the Beats brand or, as rumours suggested earlier this year, will be part of Apple's existing iTunes service.

It is also unclear whether UK users will get their mitts on the service, as Beats Music exists as a US-only service at present.

Either way, reports of such a move should have the likes of Spotify and Pandora worried, as the Beats Music subscription service will come pre-installed on hundreds of millions of devices, whether users like it or not.

However, the report claims that Beats Music will be a paid-for service, so it remains to be seen how many will fork out for it.

A subscription to Beats Music currently costs $9.99 a month or $99.99 for 12 months.

Apple could also use its TouchID fingerprint reader as an easy way to subscribe to the service, the FT said, noting that the early-2015 rollout of the service could also signal a tie-in with the much-anticipated Apple Watch device.

Apple declined to comment on the reports by FT.
