Benjamin Franklin Plumbing, one of the largest residential plumbing companies in North America, shares their exepertise on how to avoid clogged sinks, toilets and other drainage during one of the busiest days of the year.

With the busiest days of the year nearing its arrival, it's pretty sure that people will be having guests in their homes, cooking and serving food.

Meanwhile, the plumbing company said that it receives 50 percent more calls on Black Friday compared to other typical day in November, after people are done with their merry-making, cooking, eating creates problems for their plumbing.

First, the company encourage people to use the garbage can or compost instead of the garbage disposal to avoid bones, fats, and fibrous foods from clogging and potentially damaging the garbage disposal.

Second tip is to run water from the kitchen sink for several seconds before using the disposal and again after using the disposal to help flush the line.

Another problem area is the bathroom. Plumbing managers say that extra guests using the toilets and showers can clog drains damage plumbing systems at home.

In order to avoid this, avoid throwing anything extra down the toilet like tissue paper, and consider an on-demand recirculating system for the shower as it gives out instant hot water to help flush the line.

Lastly, as with any other tip, prevention is better than cure. If water drains slowly in the shower or sink and it's been a while since you've had a plumbing inspection, it may be a good time to call a trusted plumbing professional.
