Ben Affleck Thankful For Wife Jennifer Garner For Her Dedication To Family; Touches Base On Islam Debate

Gone Girl actor Ben Affleck revealed that he feels more comfortable speaking his mind rather than just saying what other people want to hear. Thus, before he received his award at Save the Children Illumination Gala last Wednesday, the actor lovingly praised his gorgeous wife, Jennifer Garner, on her love and dedication to their family. The actor also opened up on his recent argument with Real Time host, Bill Maher, over his not-so-well-received remarks about Islam.

On an episode of the show just last month, Affleck debated with the host Maher, saying that Islam is "the only religion that acts like the Mafia." According to Affleck on the heated issue, "I was ultimately making a 'Sesame Street' argument. You don't judge a whole group of people based on the actions of a few."

The actor also continued, "That's the environment around my dinner table when we talk politics. I think I'd rather tell the truth and say what I believe in and make people unhappy than sort of pretend to think something else to accommodate them and try to be liked. That's just the way it goes and I don't think I'm any great champion of anything, but if they're going to put me on a show, I'm going to say what I think."

As for his wife, Affleck says he's grateful that she takes on the "lion's share" of responsibilities and lovingly dedicating her time to raising their three young children while still maintaining her career and her involvement in charity. The actor said of his wife, "She's been really smart about choosing her projects, doing 'Dallas Buyers Club' or 'Alexander and the Terrible Day,' smart, good movies that luckily have been successful. And then, they're not so time-consuming that she can't do this work and be there for our kids, which is the most important thing to her."
