Burger King announced the lack of its new bacon sundae this week, as part of its new summer menu featuring foods inspired from southern barbeque restaurants.

In addition to the Burger King bacon sundae, said the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday, new items set to be added to the menu include sweet potato fries and Memphis pulled-pork sandwiches. The oddest addition is the bacon sundae, made with soft-serve vanilla ice cream, fudge, caramel, and of course a piece of bacon with added bacon crumbles. This is similar to the high-calorie bacon milkshake being sold at franchise Jack in a Box, said the LA Times, and a bacon sundae already available at Denny's, as part of its Baconalia promotion, said the Sun-Sentinel. It will be sold for a suggested price of $2.49.

"This limited-time soft serve dessert took Nashville, Tennessee by storm earlier this year and is now available nationwide to satisfy every sweet tooth," Burger King said in a press release, quoted by AFP on Thursday.

"The sweet and savory dessert features the rich and creamy vanilla BK soft serve (ice cream), drizzled with chocolate fudge, caramel and topped with bacon crumbles, complete with a thick-cut, hardwood smoked bacon garnish," Burger King said.

The new southern-styled items will only be available for a limited time, said the Associated Press this week. The bacon sundae was measured to contain 510 calories, 18 grams of fat and 61 grams of sugar. All the southern-based foods will be marketed with a new tagline, "Taste is King," noted Burger King in the LA Times report.

Other items set for the new Burger King menu include the Carolina BBQ Whopper or Chicken Sandwich, the Texas BBQ Whopper or Chicken Sandwich, and frozen lemonade, all of which will be available until September 3rd, or while supplies last, said the Associated Press.

An employee tipped off the FoodBeast blog that they were being trained to cook and put together the new additions to the menu, in a post updated earlier this week. The Burger King employees were given a large menu featuring all the new food items for sale, which also included the Carolina and Texas BBQ TENDERGRILL burgers.
