How To Get Away With Murder Cast Aja Naomi King Says Her Character Michaela Is 'Not Pretty' But Is Extremely Focused

Nov 28, 2014 05:21 AM EST | By Rolly Gacelo

Aja Naomi King's Michaela Pratt seems to be one of the most vulnerable among all the student assistants of Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) in How to Get Away with Murder. During the murder night in the winter finale, Michael spent all night sobbing for what they did to their professor's husband. (Watch out: How To Get Away with Murder spoiler ahead)

Wes Gibbins (Alfred Enoch) was the one who hit and eventually killed Sam Keating (Tom Verica) on the head as he defended Rebecca Sutter (Katie Findlay). Michaela was at Sam's house to see Annalise and she just happened to be at the wrong place and the wrong time. According to How to Get Away with Murder spoilers from series creator Peter Nowalk, the Keating 5 will emotionally crumble once the show resumes. Their trust for each other will b gone. Is Michaela the first one to break down given the way she reacted in the murder night?

When How to Get Away with Murder returns next year, the fate of Michaela, or anyone of the Keating 5, is still up in the air. For Naomi King, she thinks her character has what it takes to survive such horrible situation. Despite looking like she's the softest one among the group, King thinks Michaela is very determined with her goals and will do anything to reach it.

"She's very direct, she doesn't apologize for it. She's not petty. She's thinking about the overall scheme of things for her life. She's not focused on other people and more on what she needs to accomplish. We haven't even seen the tip of the iceberg," the How to Get Away with Murder cast told the Wall Street Journal in an interview.

"There's still so little we know about her and I love when we get those little nuggets of her past. Last episode, we learned that at some point in time that she was pre-med. It was also revealed that I didn't have the higher-class upbringing that I think everyone assumes my character has because of the way I dress and act. Since it began, we've gotten to see each character's months in the future and the present time. We've just been building up to that future. She's extremely focused on what she wants in her own life. Where the show began - on murder night - I'm having a full-on breakdown."

How to Get Away with Murder will return next year on January 29.
