The Cuckoo’s Calling JK Rowling: BBC Picks Up JK Rowling AKA Roberth Galbraith’s Crime Novel The Cuckoo’s Calling

Dec 11, 2014 09:18 PM EST | By Staff Reporter

It has been confirmed that JK Rowling's crime novel book The Cuckoo's Calling will be turned into a BBC series.

The book is the first in a series named the Cormoran Strike novels - named so after its main protagonist - which was released in 2013 under her pen name Robert Galbraith.

Although the Harry Potter writer had originally published the book under her pseudonym, it gained best-seller status when it was later revealed to have been her work.

Her identity was uncovered when a lawyer at the firm which represented her told his wife the real identity of Galbraith, who later posted the truth on Twitter.

As soon as word was out, sales of the critically-acclaimed book soared immensely, although the novelist later sued the law firm for their breach.

Rowling has commented on the news of the TV adaptation of The Cuckoo's Calling on her Twitter page, adding a humorous aside about her friend, Robert Galbraith.

'My friend @RGalbraith's first novel is going to be a TV drama on @BBCOne. He's very excited, but expressing it with characteristic silence,' she wrote.

The Director of BBC Television, Danny Cohen, confirmed the news in an official statement.

'It's a wonderful coup for BBC Television to be bringing J.K. Rowling's latest books to the screen. With the rich character of Cormoran Strike at their heart, these dramas will be event television across the world.'

The second book in the Cormoran Strike series, 2014's The Silkworm, will also be a part of the BBC programme.
