Updated news on Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" movie includes a possible casting of two of the highly in-demand stars of today: "Sherlock" lead Benedict Cumberbatch vs. "The Avenger's" Tom Hiddleston to play lead endless, Morpheus? Graphic novel author himself talks details.

With recent news revealing the continued progress of the much-awaited film adaptation of graphic novel "Sandman" surfacing online, Neil Gaiman himself teases fans about casting details. And the biggest among the updates, includes two huge Hollywood names: Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston.

In an interview with RadioTimes.com, author Neil Gaiman shares casting details about who will play Morpheus, the King of Dreams in the upcoming "Sandman" movie. He says, "It's a funny thing with Morpheus. Again, it's that thing where you look around and think, 'Yes this person would be a fantastic person', and then time passes. There was a time Johnny Depp would've been a great Morpheus, but now he's too old and it's fine. I think the first time I saw Benedict [Cumberbatch] was as Sherlock Holmes, I thought, 'wow, that's incredibly Morpheus'. And fans probably thought the same because they immediately started doing fan-art, meshing the two of them up."

Neil Gaiman continues on in the interview, "Then again, Tom Hiddleston is still out there! And the trust is, as far as I'm concerned, anybody who sounds English with great cheekbones can probably pull it off."

Initially when rumors of "Sandman" movie development surfaced, fans immediately assumed that while actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been working for years on the project that he'll portray the role of Morpheus. However, this recent interview shows fans around the world that nothing yet has been set on stone. And while the progress of writing continues on, at least one thing is certain: David S. Goyer, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Neil Gaiman are putting their heads together to finally begin production of the highly anticipated "Sandman" movie adaptation.
