Wow. Even the great Natalie Portman had stumbled on to a stumpy bump in the road.

Apparently, her famous role as Queen Amidala in one of the greatest movies of all time, "Star Wars" did not help at all to the career growth of Portman.

The 33-year-old "Knight of Cups" actress had reminisced and looked back on her time working with the "Star Wars" franchise in a recent interview with New York Magazine. In the interview, she revealed the adverse effects the movie franchise had on her career at that time. As we all know, she starred as Queen Amidala / Padmé in 1999's "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace", 2002's "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones", and 2005's"Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith".

The young and talented actress had also formerly worked with the late Mike Nichols who directed the play "The Seagull" back in 2001. According to the actress, "Star Wars" had come out around the time of "Seagull", and everyone thought I was a horrible actress." She continued, "I was in the biggest-grossing movie of the decade, and no director wanted to work with me."

Though the much awaited and acclaimed big-budget film had actually brought in more than $1 billion worldwide, it was also met with mixed reviews from critics as well as die-hard fans. Prior to the release of "Episode 1", the actress had previously earned several feature film credits which included 1995's "Heat" and 1996's "Beautiful Girls" and "Everyone Says I Love You".

Portman also said of her big break following the first "Star Wars" movie, "Mike wrote a letter to Anthony Minghella and said, 'Put her in "Cold Mountain", I vouch for her,'" And then the actress was passed on to other films, all thanks to the late director Nichols who had died just this November.
