Will we finally see Manny Pacquiao fight Floyd Mayweather inside the ring?
After his dominating match with Chris Algieri last November, people are now waiting for Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao to finally face undefeated fighter Floyd Mayweather Jr. and reports say it will happen in 2015.
Even Pacman’s trainer, Freddie Roach is starting to plan his strategy for the anticipated match, "I can't wait to get ready for Floyd Mayweather," he claimed, "He is a challenge. I have a great fighter, but we have to fight the perfect fight to win. I know that. We have to do certain things to win...we have to be a little bit meaner and a bit more feisty,” he added.
It was reported that Pacquiao wanted the bout to happen years ago but Mayweather gave a number of reasons why he couldn’t face Pacquiao. Some of the issues that prevented one of the most anticipated matches in boxing history are matters of drug testing and a split of the purse between the two sides – even so, Manny agreed. His latest concern on why he couldn’t fight the Filipino fighter is because of Manny’s relationship with Top Rank CEO Bob Arum. Mayweather has refused to do business with the man who promoted him for a decade.
According to famed and late boxing expert and historian Bert Sugar, “It will never happen,” he said. “Mayweather is desperate to retire undefeated. He cares too much about his record to fight Pacquiao.” Sugar described Pacquiao as “probably the greatest fighter I have seen in his style, in his weight class, since a fighter back in the 1930's, Henry Armstrong.”
Do you think Mayweather will remain undefeated until he retires? Or would he finally face Pacman inside the ring for the match everyone has been wanting to see?
