Following the success of "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies", Benedict Cumberbatch appears in another star-studded film with no other than Johnny Depp in the upcoming crime-drama movie, "Black Mass".
There had been clamor for Johnny Depp and "Iron Man" star Robert Downey Jr. to appear in a single movie and yet it's another two big names in the upcoming "Black Mass" film-Depp and Cumberbatch.
"Black Mass", directed by Scott Cooper is known for his work in the mini-series "Broken Trail" and "Gods and Generals" in 2003. "Black Mass" is based on Dick Lehr's 2001 novel "Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob".
The official synopsis of "Black Mass," according to Warner Bros., reads: "The true story of Whitey Bulger, the brother of a state senator and the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston, who became an FBI informant to take down a Mafia family invading his turf."
Johnny Depp will play the lead character Whitey Bulger, and Benedict Cumberbatch will take on the role of his brother William "Billy" Bulger. Other cast members include Joel Edgerton, Jesse Plemons, Sienna Miller, Dakota Johnson, David Harbour, Rory Cochrane, Julianne Nicholson, Kevin Bacon and Peter Sarsgaard.
"Black Mass" began filming in May 2014, and in July, both Depp and Cumberbatch were seen filming together in Boston which made so many happy fans. While this is the first film that features both stars in the big screen, hopefully "Black Mass" will gather positive feedback and bring Johnny Depp and Benedict Cumberbatch together in other future projects.
Johnny Depp is currently working on "Yoga Hosers" and "Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass", while Benedict Cumberbatch has his hands full with "Doctor Strange" and "The Jungle Book: Origins."
